Whilst exploring the Loire Valley we visited the Château de Chambord. Of all the 300 chateaux in the region this is the largest. To get to Chambord we caught a bus from outside the railway station at Blois.

You can't but be impressed by the sheer size of the chateau

The view of the chateau is very impressive as you walk up the sweeping drive to the entrance.

Flamboyant Italian architecture, Chambord John at Chateau de Chambord in the Loire Valley
The Italian style architecture is full of flamboyant details, especially on the domes and the roof top walkways.

It has over 400 rooms and many staircases including the famous double staircase designed by Leonardo da Vinci.

one of the many staircases leading to the roof top passageways

The park around the chateau is also extensive.  The Loire river was even diverted to be included in the grounds.

From here we then visited Cheverny, another stunning chateau near Blois.
