For my birthday treat John took me to Prague for the weekend.
We both found it very interesting discovering how the city had changed since
our visits in 1986 and 1992.
Our hotel was very central and was near the municipal concert hall
and gun powder store tower.
We strolled through the
old town, StarĂ© Město and couldn't help but be impressed by the beautiful
buildings. Neither of us remember them being so clean and colourful.
We
walked around the old town square and saw the astronomical clock.

The
lower part contains the signs of the zodiac and on the hour a procession of the
twelve apostles appears in the upper window. After
all that excitement we moved to some of the quieter streets and stumbled across
more beautiful buildings,
...churches

...and
archways
which
lead to more onion spires.
We
approached the Charles Bridge over the River Vltava.

Charles Bridge with the tourists, artists and buskers
Over the bridge is the entrance to Prague castle, Prazsky hrad

The castle grounds contain the Old Royal Palace

and
St. Vitus cathedral.

This
is where we, The Manx Youth Choir sang many moons ago. Great
acoustics! (There will now be a short pause as I walk down memory lane....!) Back
to the present day outside down by the River Vltava.
On
the left of this picture you can just see the Petrin Look Out Tower, a smaller
version of the Eiffel Tower
Several
other changes we noticed included the price of the pivo, Pilsener
Urquell:
1986 - 12 pence a pint
1992 - 25 pence a pint
2002 - 50 pence a pint. na zdravĂ!!
