One day on our holiday in the Loire Valley we
caught the train from Tours to Chinon.
The town attracts coach loads of tourists and is also famous for its red
wines.
In the town itself the old quarter is full of cobblestone streets

and houses with triangular black slate roofs.

From the banks of the Vienne River
you can look up at the towers and ramparts of the chateau.

Nowadays the medieval fortress is mostly ruins |

There are many vineyards all around Chinon with their little "dégustation
signs" inviting folks to sample the ruby red wines .
