Whilst on holiday in Tours we went to one of the most popular chateaux in the
Loire Valley, the Chateau de Chenonceau.
The building and design of this chateau has always been under the control of
women including Catherine de Medicis, Diane de Poitiers, even Mary Queen of
Scots lived here at one point.

For a wonderful first impression it is best to approach the chateau through
the gardens.

Then you get a magnificent view of the elegant set of arches, which span the
River Cher.

The arches and gallery are reflected in the water making it the perfect
setting.

The well laid out and highly maintained gardens extend along the banks of the
Cher river and the surrounding forest. Chenonceau is top of my list of
favourite places to visit in the Loire.
