The half-fish, half-lion is the mythical symbol of
Singapore. |
Sir
Stamford Raffles landed on Singapore in 1819.
His statue stands at North Boat Quay marking the spot where he first set foot
on Singapore soil.
The British developed many
colonial administrative buildings along the Singapore River
 including
the Supreme Court, which
is next to the Padang.
The Singapore Cricket Club play here as do various rugby clubs.
Round
the corner is St. Andrew's Cathedral,

the
Esplanade Theatres,

the
fire station
and
nearby is the
famous Raffles Hotel

We
went inside and followed the tourists to the Long Bar.

where
after all that sightseeing I had my Singapore Sling cocktail,
and
John ordered a beer and

got
half a yard of ale!
Another
day we visited the Singapore Botanic Gardens. As we walked along Orchard Road
we spotted a familiar name!

Then
we arrived at the Botanic Gardens.

Swans,
ducks, fish and turtles inhabit the lakes.
As
the temperature rose John was pleased to spot a waterfall!
We
wandered around the National Orchid Garden.
There are over 60 000 orchids in these beautifully laid out gardens.
We
really enjoyed our short stopovers in Singapore.
Follow the rest of our
adventures as we travelled around Australia.
