Howard visited us in Paris in spring. As this was his first trip to Paris we took him to see all the sights
in this beautiful city including the Eiffel Tower, Notre
Dame, Hotel de Ville, Montmartre, the
Louvre, Champs Elysées and Place de la
Concorde, Opéra, Bastille, Quartier Latin and
Parc Monceau.
The first on the list was the Eiffel Tower
 |
 |
The Trocadero is a good spot to
get your first proper look of the tower in all its glory. |

From the top you get some great views of the city including
 |
 |
Ecole Militaire, founded in 1751 for training aristocratic
army officers including Napoleon and the golden dome of Invalides where Napoleon is
buried.. |
Notre Dame

One of the most famous cathedrals in the world,

Notre Dame is very impressive standing in the centre of Paris on the banks of
the River Seine.
Hotel de Ville

Also sitting on the banks of the Seine is the Hotel de Ville (town hall)

Montmartre

In the north of the city is the charming village of Montmartre.

On top of the hill is the famous landmark, the Sacré Coeur church.

Another spot to get a good view of Paris's skyline.
The Louvre

The Louvre is one of the world's most popular tourist attractions attracting
even more visitors after Dan Brown's bestseller, "The Da Vinci code"
was published.

At the entrance the huge glass pyramid makes a striking contrast to the very
ornate former royal residence.
Champs Elysées and Place de la Concorde
The Champs Elysées is a broad tree lined boulevard, which stretches from the
Arc de Triomphe down to Place de la Concorde.

The view of the Champs Elysées from the top of the Arc de Triomphe.
The place de la Concorde was the scene where many aristocrats were
guillotined during the French revolution.

The luxury Hotel de Crillon stands majestically on the place.

In the centre is an obelisk from the temple of Luxor.
Opéra
Paris is a very cultural city and opera plays an important part in the city's
musical calendar.

The ornate Opera Garnier is no longer used for opera since the new opera
house at Bastille was built.

Quartier Latin
On the left bank of the river is the Quartier Latin home of the Sorbonne
university and is a popular student area.

The Panthéon is the final resting place for several great French scientists,
artists and writers including Marie Curie and Victor Hugo.
Parc Monceau
A few steps from our apartment is the delightful if rather small parc Monceau.

Cuisine
Naturally all trips to Paris include visiting traditional restaurants and
sampling the wonderful French cuisine and wine.

Bon appétit!
