The Fête des Lumières takes place every December in Lyon. John and I spent a weekend with friends visiting this famous festival,
where over several evenings various buildings, streets and squares around the
city are lit up in different colours and innovative displays.

In the afternoon we walked around the city and along the banks of the Rhône
and Saone rivers.

Then we strolled around the old town.

View from the basilica situated at top of the hill overlooking the city.

As darkness fell the crowds flocked to the different areas of the city to see the
highly creative light shows.
