In July we spent a few days in Amboise in the Loire Valley. We
went hot air ballooning, explored the town and the nearby
Pagode de Chanteloup. Amboise town

Rising above the river the chateau provides the main focus for visitors.

The clock tower and the narrow winding streets.

The Saint Denis church lies in the south east corner of the town.

By the riverside we came across this odd looking fountain by Max Ernst of a
turtle topped by a teddy bear
Pagode de Chanteloup
On the outskirts of Amboise is this pagoda, which was once part of an 18th
century chateau.

The Duke of Choiseul constructed this Chinese style monument as Chinese
decorations were all the rage at the time and we climbed to the top to admire
amazing views of the surrounding countryside.

In the gardens there is a lake complete with Chinese boats.

You can even take a trip around the grounds in a rickshaw.

Meanwhile John decided to have a go at Chinese skittles.

Loire valley in 2004.
