In March John and I visited Zarzis, which is in the south of Tunisia
. We took an excursion around the island of Djerba
including a trip to the pottery village of Guellala.
We also spent a nice relaxing time on our holiday sampling the local
cuisine and lazying around on the beach.
We stayed at the Giktis Hotel
We visited the nearby seaside town of Zarzis.
In the town centre is the mosque and the market.
Then we walked to the Port de Pêche,
past the ship yard,
and as we approached the fishing port we noticed a stack of octopus pots on the quayside.
One day we took a scooter tour around the island of Djerba.
We wandered around the souks (markets),
admiring the hand woven carpets
and the brightly coloured hand crafted pots, plates and dishes.
Then we explored the city's narrow streets
Later we stopped at the village of Guellala, which is famous for pottery and crafts.
Potters still make the ceramics by hand.
Some pots are even large enough to climb inside.
Naturally our trip to Tunisia included eating lots of delicious coucous, olives and figs.
and down the little path leading to the Mediterranean Sea.
Once there all we had to decide was whether we fancied a sunny or a shady spot
and then...relax!
