The redeveloped docks
are now full of shops, bars, museums and cinemas.
Our hotel was in nearby Glebe close to the university.
Inaugurated in 1850 it's Australia's oldest university.
At the water's edge is the Sydney Opera House.
even though we'd seen many pictures of it on TV it was rather impressive seeing it for real with its high white roofs.
Views of the Opera House from the ferry
Opposite the Opera House is the Harbour Bridge.
It's used by cyclists, cars and trains.
We climbed the bridge. It took three hours in total. The first hour was spent getting kitted out in these lovely grey boiler suits and putting on our harness, radio and getting breathalyzed.
The climb was good fun and we paused along the way as the guide pointed out the various landmarks.
It was a hot sunny day and we had some fantastic views.
From Circular Quay we caught the ferry to the zoo.
In the Australian Walkabout area are
emus
kangaroos
and very shy koalas.
From Sydney we also explored the surrounding bays and coves and took the ferry to Watsons Bay and Manly Bay. See the photos from the rest of our travels around Singapore and Australia. |
