Our friends, Robbie and Mike came over to Paris for my
birthday celebrations and
during the weekend John and I showed them the Palais Royal
and the Rodin Museum at Invalides.
The Palais Royal
Near the Louvre is the Palais Royal, which was originally Cardinal
Richelieu's residence.
We walked through the arcades to the inner courtyard, known as the
Cour d'Honneur.
Inside there is a quirky collection of over a hundred
black and white pillars of all different sizes designed by the artist, Daniel
Buren.
We walked towards the gardens past some very artistic fountains.
Invalides
and the Rodin Museum
The
Hôtel des Invalides with its striking dome contains the war museum and is
where Napoleon is buried.
Nearby is the Auguste Rodin museum. Some of his major sculptures are
exhibited in the garden.
The Gates of Hell, which was inspired from the Italian poet Dante's "Inferno".
French writer, Honoré de
Balzac
The bronze sculpture, "The Thinker" is one of the most famous of Rodin's works.
