In December 2001 John and I went to New Zealand Here are some photos showing what a fabulous holiday we had. We left Paris on Christmas Eve and arrived at Hong Kong on Christmas morning.
We spent a few hours walking around the harbour ,being amazed at the height of the skyscrapers.
We flew to Auckland and spent our first few days adjusting to the new time zone. Then we headed to Queenstown, South Island for the wedding and lots of adventures with our friends. The Dart River jet boat safari was excellent.
The
journey took us through the upper reaches of the Dart River.
Chris and Bob
All aboard with life jackets secured!
me and John
And we're off.............
Dave and Andy
After the jet boating we had a short walk through the National Park.
Pierre proves that New Zealand really does have a lot of sheep. Queenstown reminds me of The Lake District back home only here the mountains are taller and the lake is deeper.
I think these are Remarkable photos.
The view of Queenstown from Bob's Peak. (The Kiwis do have some funny names for their mountains!)
John and Dave take the chair lift to the top.
All together now... They'll be luging down the mountain when they luge.. Yeehah !!
We left Queenstown and set off to explore to the South Island. First stop was Dunedin, which was more Scottish than its namesake Edinburgh 18 869 KM away.

We also visited Penguin Place home of the Yellow Eyed Penguin Reserve
a juvenile penguin trying to cool off
We then travelled up the east coast to Christchurch. We stopped off on the way to visit the Moeraki Boulders. They are completely spherical and up to 2 metres in diameter. "Awesome" as the Kiwis would say.
We visited Kaikoura in the hope of going whale watching, but the ocean was too rough, so we had to make do with taking a photo of John and the Pacific Ocean instead!
Our journey continued to the North Island. After visiting Jo & Mark in Wellington we travelled to north via Lake Taupo.
another opportunity to photograph the beautiful scenery
to Rotorua
Here we are in the Gardens
where hot steam rises from the springs.
This is the bowling green. New Zealand is so British at times.
We had a great time and we definitely recommend New Zealand as a wonderful holiday destination. We're already planning our next trip...
