In the spring we travelled to the Greek islands of Rhodes and Symi. On Rhodes we stayed in Rhodes town and the beautiful little town, Lindos. As well as exploring the rich architectural history and culture of the islands we also discovered some great restaurants.

Rhodes

We followed the coastal path from Ixia on Rhodes' northwest tip to Rhodes Town admiring the blue waters and the views along the way.

Gate d'Amboise , Rhodes old town

Rhodes old town is a UNESCO heritage site. We walked around the historic walled town, getting lost wandering around the medieval streets and alleys, where there are shops, bars and restaurants and the Palace of the Grand Masters, which was built in the middle ages by the Knights of St John.

From the old town we walked to the harbour.

Symi

leaving Rhodes to travel to Symi

From Rhodes we took a ferry to the small island of Symi.

Symi harbour, Greece

The picturesque harbour is overlooked by steep hills full of rows of pastel coloured houses.

Symi, Greek island

Along the waterfront we sampled the Greek cuisine in the family run tavernas.

Symi, Greece

Lindos

is on the east coast of Rhodes and is an unspoilt small town with white washed houses and car-free cobbled streets.

Lindos acropolis, temple to Athena

Above the town stands the acropolis. It's a steep climb up, but it was worth seeing the ruins of the ancient Greek temple to Athena and the remaining walls and towers of the castle of the Knights of St John.

Lindos has several wonderful sandy beaches.

St Paul's bay, Lindos, Rhodes, Greece

St Paul's bay surrounded by rocks, where the water is clear and quite shallow making it ideal for spotting fish whilst having a dip.

Our hotel was on the outskirts of Lindos.

Enjoying a leisurely apéro before strolling downhill for dinner and experience more wonderful Greek restaurants.
